Song of the Week: Patrol Boat

By October 20, 2017February 7th, 2018Song of the Week
Patrol Boat - We Wrote the Book on Connectors

Patrol Boat is a beautiful love song inspired by the most romantic board game of all time, Battleship.

In the game of Battleship, the patrol boat is the most difficult ship to destroy.  This is mainly due to to the fact that it is so much smaller than all the other boats. It only occupies two spaces on the grid. Much like love in the real world, the patrol boat is virtually impossible to find. You just have to hope you get lucky.

Some of you may have noticed that this is not exactly what I like to call a “new” song. The truth is, it has been around a long time. Originally made popular years ago by the world famous Seattle mustache rock band We Wrote the Book on Connectors. Wait a second… I was in that band. (I also wrote the song.)

Patrol Boat would occasionally make appearances in our set in between our other hits songs about vitamins, professional wrestlers, and penises. Although it is both catchy and fun to play, it never quite reached the status of being a WE staple.

Legend has it that Patrol Boat was once used as the theme song for the movie Battleship. (They should have called the movie Patrol Boat but whatever…)

Patrol Boat
By We Wrote the Book on Connectors

i’ve tried my best to find my way into your heart
sometimes I doubt that it exists
I don’t know what to do my battleship is sunk
my tears are always hit and miss

patrol boat where are you
patrol boat where are you

my board is keeping track of every single move
looks like there’s no way I can win
check my coordinates for any sign of you
seems like your heart is off the grid

the game is almost over
you’re hiding in the corner
navigate the plastic sea
your carrier can carry me

Hey baby i’ve been thinking
this submarine is sinking
my strategy’s not helping me
I close my eyes and all I see is red and white
