Every week you get a new song from Mike Votava. How cool is that?! It’s super cool!

Time to Go is the Mike Votava song of the week. It is all about the mindset of actively moving forward while still acknowledging the way things turned out. Good or bad.  It’s a common theme among pop songs. It’s not that common among my songs, however. I usually stick to songs about tacos or wrestling. Write what you know.

Seattle songwriter/music master Nick Droz came over to MJV studios to lay down some twangy lead guitar tracks and backup vocals. It was a lot of fun to work together. He did a good job.

You can see Nick and his band Nick Droz and the Lost Cause perform at the Tractor on November 2nd.

Great to have Nick Droz in the studio today. Rock and roll to the max @nickdrozandthelostcause

The Skinny on the First Verse

Did somebody say Snorks?

When I was a freshman in college I would watch the Snorks. Or at least sometimes I would try. Monday through Friday the Snorks would air on TV at five in the morning. Instead of waking up early to go on an adventure with everyone’s favorite animated underwater creatures, I would attempt to stay up all night with friends the night before. In between we would kill a lot of time with MTV.

This plan rarely worked. When it did it was magical.

Getting older is challenging. It’s important to remember that good times were had and that more are on the way. Also, college is weird.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen the Snorks. I can’t recall if the show was good or not or what it was even about. I do know that a few years ago my sister went as a snork for Halloween. It was also magical.

The Skinny on the Second Verse

The universal story of getting dumped by someone you’re not quite ready to be dumped by yet. It never feels good. There’s nothing you can do about it. Best to regroup and move on.

The Skinny on the Chorus

I am excited to have used the phrase “frozen pizza” in the chorus. That’s not easy to do. If you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to go accept an award for “Outstanding Achievement in Pizza Lyric Writing Excellence!”

I hope you like the song. Don’t forget to leave me a comment. Would love to know what you think!

Time To Go
by Mike Votava

Oh yesterday we were so much younger
and the nights were longer without putting up a fight
Watching MTV for the news, Kurt Loder
When the Snorks are over it’s time to say goodnight

Going home today
pack a snack for on the way
Raid the fridge for frozen pizza
time to go

I don’t know the way
Mobile phone will navigate
Leave behind the lonely pieces
time to go

It’s so hard to breathe when the bases are loaded
wondering if she noticed her hand holding my heart
In the car she said she just wanted to be friends
So this is how it ends
Why did I pretend
