The Seattle summer is in full swing. I know that it’s Africa hot outside, but don’t let that keep you from getting out there and spending some quality time under the sun. I’m talking about the four Bs of summer —BBQs, beers, bikinis, and boners. There is also a ton of really great rock shows coming up.

Here are a few Seattle summer shows on my radar.

Julia Massey and The Five Finger Discount
Thursday July 16th at the Olympic Sculpture Park
6 – 8pm | FREE

Summer at the SAM 2015

All summer long the Seattle Art Museum puts on these awesome free events at the Olympic Sculpture Park. The events are outside, a bunch of people come, some food trucks show up, live music is played and everybody has a good time.

“Get into the summer spirit with the sweetly trippy, magical musical trio, Julia Massey & The Five Finger Discount. Their whimsical, happily-raging, pop-infused tunes will have you bouncing and swaying in the sun.”

This show is a bit early in the evening. If you don’t live or work close by you are most likely going to have to fight a bunch of stupid Seattle traffic. Don’t let that stop you from coming. I do happen to work close by, so you know I will be there.

In the event that you can’t make it, never fear. Julia Massey and The Five Finger Discount are also playing on July 18th at the High Dive. So you can go to that instead. I personally will not be attending that one. I will be too busy celebrating my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. Can you believe it has been 50 years already? They grow up so fast.

Mts. & Tunnels
Opening for an Outdoor Screening of Spaceballs
Thursday July 16th at the Redhook Brewery in Woodinville
6pm | movie starts at dusk | $5

What could be better the pairing up one of the best bands in Seattle with one of the best movies of all time?!!!!!  I would love to go to this but I’m already going to Julia Massey’s show that day. Plus it is in Woodinville and there’s just no way I would be able to make it over there by 6pm. But if you happen to be on the east side you should totally go.

May the schwartz be with you.

Marmalade — LAST SHOW EVER
July 30th at The High Dive
10pm | 21+

marmalade - final seattle show

Every Thursday night in Fremont for the past 13 years Marmalade has laid down some of the funkiest jams Seattle has ever seen. Sadly, their reign of funky terror will soon be coming to an end. On July 30th, 2015, Marmalade will play their final funked up groove.

I bet it will get pretty crazy up in the High Dive that night. There are already 444 confirmed guests on Marmalade’s Facebook event page.

Literary Mixer
July 28th at The Hideout
FREE | 21+

literary mixer - seattle

This isn’t a rock show, but that’s ok.  Literary Mixer is a cool event that happens in Seattle ever so often where people drink together and talk about books they’ve been reading.

Below are the official Literary Mixer instructions:

“Like all the best ideas, this one is simple: bring your favorite book, have your favorite drink, and meet people who will make your evening great. And yes, we’ll even let you in with an e-reader.”

I’ve been to a few of these and they are always really fun.

Seattle Songwriters Summit
featuring: Jeff Grant, Norman Baker, Brian Kinsella, Simon Kornelis, Andy Coe, Chris Jones, Scott Goodwin, Mike Muir
August 13th at The Royal Room
21+ | $10 Suggested Donation

seattle songwriters summit - royal room

Some of Seattle’s best song writers, all in the same building at once, making music —you know this will be good. It features three of the four members of M. Bison (Jeff Grant, Brian Kinsella, Chris Jones). It will be the closest thing we’re going to get to regular M. Bision show in a very long time. Plus, Simon Kornelis is playing too and that dude is badass!

You would be pretty stupid to miss this show.

We Wrote the Book on Connectors
with Harvey Sid Fisher
August 29th at The High Dive

Hooray! My band We Wrote the Book on Connectors is finally playing another show. The great Harvey Sid Fisher will also be there — tearing it up with his Astrology Songs (my favorite is Aires). WE are pumped to once again be playing the mustache rock for you.

You would have to be a real jerk to miss this show.

Don’t be a jerk. Come to the WE show!
