The Spider — A Hauntingly Beautiful Song by Amanda Sue Winterhalter

By May 28, 2015Seattle Music

Amanda Sue Winterhalter has a superpower and that superpower is singing. With her voice she can silence the noisiest of crowds, tug at heart strings like a box of adorable kittens, and fight crime on the moon. OK, I’ve never actually seen her battle bad guys on the moon, but I know that she could. The Spider is an awesome song, haunting and beautiful.

This is what Amanda has to say about The Spider

“This was the first song I wrote for a Bushwick Book Club Seattle show, the Jack Straw Anthology in November 2012. I was paired with writer Claudia Rowe, who wrote a story about meeting a serial killer in a federal penitentiary whose story she’d been covering for over a year. This is one of my favorite songs I’ve written, even though it’s quite dark.”

The Spider is featured on The Bushwick Book Club Seattle Volume II. Take a listen and then go buy it.

Love this song.

And here she is performing it live at the aforementioned Bushwick show.

I’m not sure what Amanda is up to now. She doesn’t seem to be playing out much these days. I think she’s busy becoming a lawyer or a doctor or something.  I don’t know, but I wish she would record an album soon. I tell her that every time I see her (how annoying that must be!). I would love to listen to an Amanda Sue Winterhalter album. That would make my day, and many other people’s days.

Amanda, if you are reading this, don’t be a ding dong! Please let us know what you’ve been up to lately in the comments section below. I would really like to know. And so would a bunch of other folks.
