Listening to podcasts has been a great way for me to continue my marketing education. They keep me up to date on the marketing world and also inspire me to take the necessary actions to ensure that a successful marketing career will always be in my future. If you jump on the podcast bandwagon I know that the listening experience could do the same for you too.
There are a lot of podcasts out there – A LOT. And although my needs as a listener are continuously shifting as my learning priorities change, there is a small handful of shows that I make sure never to miss.
Here are three podcasts that every marketer should listen to, no matter what.
Smart Passive Income Podcast with Pat Flynn
Consistently ranked among the top ten business podcasts on iTunes, the Smart Passive Income podcast is a fantastic resource for marketers of all levels. Hosted by industry leader Pat Flynn, he walks you through the ins and outs of what it takes to run a successful online business. This show offers tips on blogging, social media, personal productivity, content creation, online marketing strategies, and more. His interviews are with some of the biggest names in the industry (Jay Baer, Seth Godin, Michael Stelzner, John Lee Dumas, Gary Vaynerchuk) and they offer incredible marketing insights. Pat Flynn is inspiring and extremely personable (I’ve never met him but it feels like I have!) He is a master of delivering top value to the listener on every episode.

This Is Your Life – Michael Hyatt
The focus of this show is leadership. Each week host Michael Hyatt helps you answer the question – “What can I do right now to become a more effective leader? “ and challenges you to take action. Topics range from how to create more mental focus to how to deal with a bad boss. The show also provides you with some incredibly useful tools on how to successfully create an online business platform of your own. Informative and actionable, with each episode Michael Hyatt leaves you a better person for having listened.
Radiolab
Any successful marketer knows that a crucial ingredient to any marketing campaign is storytelling. And although Radiolab is not a show about marketing or business per se, it is a first rate example of how to tell amazing stories. You can learn so much about the fine art of storytelling just from listening regularly. This podcast (also broadcasted on NPR) investigates interesting questions about science, philosophy and human nature. Hosts Jad Abumrad and Rober Krulwhich, along with a slew of talented producers and reporters, do such an incredible job of telling stories it is impossible for you not to be completely engaged from start to finish. Each episode will inspire you to develop new ways to tell the stories that will increase engagement within your marketing campaign’s target audience.
Those are my top three. Which podcasts do you tend to get the most value from?
