Hello ladies and germs!
It’s time to start blogging!
I haven’t been happy with my writing output. I like to write but it has been my experience that it is much easier for me to sit around on my fat lazy butt and not write.
Laziness might be the all-time dumbest reason not do something that you want to do. The only way to do stuff is to actually do it. It’s impossible to be a writer without actually writing. It’s such simple concept, and simple is exactly how I like my concepts.
So in the same spirit of Drawing Club (still going strong after two plus years), and Songwriting Club (fell a part in spectacular fashion but now has taken the form of a different club known as PPP Club), and Digital Art Club (still going strong after over a year. For some reason I don’t have a blog about it. I should do something about that.), I’m starting Blogging Club to help me form a healthy writing habit.
Like all clubs, a club with only one person is not a true club. That’s why I recruited two of my favorite people in the world to join me.
Together we are Blogging Club!!!!! (I should make us some Blogging Club t-shirts)
Here are the official rules of Blogging Club:
- You must publish a minimum of two blog posts per week on your website by Saturday. And text or email (TBD best method) the other members of the group the links to your published blogs. Failure to either of these things results in you treating the rest of the group to a pizza party. This is known as the “Pizza Party Penalty” (PPP). For each missed assignment, the pizzas can be distributed individually to each club member (not as fun), or all at once when members have a chance to get together (super fun). In the latter scenario, it is highly encouraged for the members receiving the pizza to make fun of the person who is buying the pizza. It’s OK to say things like “Thanks for the pizza, dummy!” and “Way to not write your blog posts, nerd!”. Flipping the bird is also acceptable behavior.
- By “Saturday” in this case means before you go to bed that day and not when the day might otherwise be technically over according to the clock.
- You can post more that one blog post per day. For example, if you publish two posts on Saturday, the day the assignment is due, that counts as completing your assignment for the week
- There is no minimum word count. Write as much or as little as you like. No pressure.
- You can write about anything you want.
- If you want to publish more than two blog posts in a single week, fucking go for it! No one will stop you.
- You can take a week off whenever you want. But you must give the group a reasonable amount of notice and provide an estimate as to when you will be back at it. None of this “I don’t feel like writing this week so I’m gonna take the week off” nonsense on the Friday before your assignment is due. You can take as many breaks as you want.
- You can take the week off if you’re ill or you have to deal with some kind of emergency. No pizza party penalty for this. Shit will happen. It’s OK.
- The quality of the writing doesn’t matter. The blog posts don’t have to be good, they just need to be done.
- No critiquing allowed. Keep your stupid opinions to your dumb self. This is not the time for feedback. Feedback is only allowed if you ask for it
- Positive vibes of encouragement are welcome. Stuff like “Way to go!” or “Nice job!” or “Keep it up!” are perfectly acceptable. Saying something like “Your latest blog post gave me a boner!”, while well-intentioned, may or may not go over so well. Please proceed with caution when using that particular phrase.
- You can’t invite new members to the group without first consulting the existing members.
That’s it!
This should be fun. Let’s see how it goes.
Party on!
