A friend of mine is hosting a baby shower soon and she asked me of all people to put my fantastic design skills to use and make an invitation. Her concept was a bit odd: use the image of the sloth hugging a cat and include the phrase “Please join us in toasting the future president” at the top. I followed her instructions to the T even though I still have no idea what sloths, and cats, and hugs have to do with presidents, or the future, or babies. Well, I guess I can see the link between babies and hugs…. Anyhow, I think the invite turned out OK. The results are below (Some names and some addresses have been changed.)

I’m a big fan of the strong lines of text down the left side and the slight variations on the font, DejaVu Sans, newly installed specifically for this project. I found it with a quick google search for “free big sans seriff fonts”. This page popped up: The 14 Most Popular Free Sans-Serif Fonts That Are Actually Useful — Useful AND free?! My two favorite things!
Working with the sloth image made me want to look up other sloth related material. Did you know that there is a four minute video of a sloth snuggling up with a cat? Check it out.
I turned it off at about the two minute mark, however, it was just enough slothy goodness for me to start thinking of my favorite sloth of all time, Sloth from Goonies. And last night I spent way too much time putting together this crappy Sloth tribute video. It is kind of fun, but mostly terrible. (Song is by We Wrote the Book on Connectors)
