I got a nice email today with the subject line:
Hooray! You sold 300 items.
The email was from Cotton Bureau, one of my online storefronts where I sell my shirt designs.
Yesterday I sold my 300th item (wow!) and they sent me this nice email as a congratulations. This email has been the one highlight of my otherwise bummer of a week.
It’s a great thrill knowing that people out there are enjoying (and paying for) my designs. I often wonder if anyone is paying attention to my creative endeavors. For the most part, nobody is. I’m learning to be OK with that.
Being unknown is not necessarily a bad thing. It helps relieve the pressure of expectations and outcomes. The creative process is more enjoyable without having to worry about if the the thing I’m making is any good or not. Do the work for the sake of doing the work and the outcomes will take care of themselves.
It can be fun AND rewarding to spend time making the stupidest shit. It’s  the creative zone I’m most comfortable operating from.
It is nice to be appreciated. And it’s nice to make money from my art. It’s also nice to not have to worry about any of that and just make stuff.
The email contains a FREE CODE I can use on any item from my shop.
I used it to get this: MEOW!
