I Am is the second of two songs I created in collaboration with fellow song maker Nick Droz. You can check out the first song we made over here, that one is called Itch To Scratch.

To briefly recap the project:  Each one of us recorded the music parts for a new song without any vocals or melody. Then the other person wrote the words and melody and recorded the vocal parts to the other’s instrument only track. Got it? Good.

Because we don’t typically make music like this, the songs ended up being way different than what we might normally create. It was a fun project. We will most likely attempt it again soon.

Now on to the new song — I Am. For this song, I wrote the words and performed the vocal parts, and Nick created the music.

As you can probably tell from the awesome graphic above this song has something to do with bowling. But it’s not just about any ol’ run-of-the-mill bowler. It’s about Pete Weber, AKA the greatest bowler of all time.

He’s the only bowler I know with his own catchphrase

Who do you think you are?! I am!

The scrawny sounding voice you here talking during the song is none other than the great Pete Weber himself. It’s actual audio of him competing at the 2012 PBA U.S. Open.

Pete wins the match on his last roll, bringing home his record-setting 5th PBA U.S. Open title, leading him to belt out his iconic phrase…

A large part of me was worried that Nick would get mad at me for turning his awesome rock song into a dumb song about bowling… but I did it anyway. I have no regrets. BWAAAAHAHA!

This is what Nick had to say about the project:

Writing and recording something for Mike to sing over was a blast, and felt pretty natural. I thought it would be really fun to see what he would do with a giant riff-rock song. I wasn’t wrong. He took it in a direction I never would have dreamed of, and the result is nothing short of a good time.

— Nick Droz

Long live Pete Weber, forever rolling in our hearts.

Word.

I Am
by Nick Droz and Mike Votava

King of the lanes
running this town
You’re setting them up and I’m striking them down
I Party all the time
that’s the way I roll
I can fit two fingers and a thumb inside of your holes

Who do you think you are?
I am

Rocking the tour
always putting on a show
my balls are silky smooth and they know just where to go
There’s a turkey on the board
I’m rolling like butter
Gonna slap some on your toast while I’m banging your mother
