The Giraffes are a rock band. It is one of the many side projects from Chris Ballew (The Presidents of the United States of America). They just put out a new album titled We Hear Music which is being distributed the old fashioned way — via word of mouth from a very small group of PUSA superfans, hand selected by Chris himself. They were instructed to distribute the album any way they wanted, just as long as it was absolutely free.
One superfan by the name of Insane Ian put the album up on Bandcamp where you can download it for free. Go do so now before you forget.
I am pretty pumped about this — 33 tracks of The Giraffes goodness.
Back in the early 2000s, after the “final” PUSA show, The Giraffes were playing out in Seattle a ton. There was a period of time where once a month you could see them at the Crocodile, or The Sunset, or the Tractor, or the old Sit & Spin (R.I.P.).
I remember even seeing The Giraffes at Bumbershoot one year. Which I just discovered via way of The Google (as in 15 minutes ago) that a live recording exists of that performance. And it is available for FREE download on archive.org. It includes a cover of Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed”, which was a staple of The Giraffes live set at the time. If you listen closely you can hear me clapping in the background.
So when you are finished downloading the new The Giraffes album, be sure to check out that live Bumbrersoot recording too. And then go tell your friends about what you did. They will be proud of you.
