Here we are. Thirteen songs in on Tuesday Groove Kabobs and finally here is a song about an animal.
This song is called “Swan Knocker”. It’s about a rogue swan that spends all day knocking on people’s doors just for the hell of it.
I got the idea after reading this article from the CBC about a rogue swan that spends all day knocking on people’s doors just for the hell of it. The song practically wrote itself.
The star of the song is a British swan named Cedric (or Percy). Here he is in action.
And here is my song “Swan Knocker” in action. I hope you like it.
The second bit of inspiration for this song came from watching Dave Grohl perform an acoustic version of “Everlong”.
For “Swan Knocker” I started off by trying to copy this version of “Everlong”. I used a percussive guitar part with some open bouncy string stuff happening. And I stuck with an acoustic guitar and vocals-only arrangement.
Though a Dave Grohl I am not. My song sucks and his song is great. But I’m OK with that. I knew what I signed up for when I started down the “Everlong” route. But even though “Swan Knocker” fails to match the emotional beats of “Everlong” in every way, I deserve some bonus points for using the lyric “violate my mail slot” as something other than a sexual euphemism (I’m literally talking about a mail slot).
I snuck another pizza reference in the song.
keep me from my pizza
It makes sense though because the swan doesn’t like delivery people (the CBC article mentions this), which I assume includes the pizza delivery guy.
“No pizza for you!” squawked Cedric (or Percy).
The End.
Swan Knocker
by Mike Votava
You’ve been at it for hours
you do this every day
violate my mail slot
which I don’t appreciate
Who’s rocking on my front door
swan knocker
If you love me say so
otherwise just go away
keep me from my pizza
with your feathers in my face
Who’s rocking on my front door
swan knocker
Watch you terrorize the neighborhood
you’re a superstar on the local news
Unlike all the other British you birds
you’re out to break my heart
and there’s nothing I can do
Who’s rocking on my front door
swan knocker[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
